וַיִּגְּשׁוּ, כָּל-שָׂרֵי הַחֲיָלִים, וְיוֹחָנָן בֶּן-קָרֵחַ, וִיזַנְיָה בֶּן-הוֹשַׁעְיָה--וְכָל-הָעָם, מִקָּטֹן וְעַד-גָּדוֹל.

Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,
|
|
ב
וַיֹּאמְרוּ אֶל-יִרְמְיָהוּ הַנָּבִיא, תִּפָּל-נָא תְחִנָּתֵנוּ לְפָנֶיךָ, וְהִתְפַּלֵּל בַּעֲדֵנוּ אֶל-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, בְּעַד כָּל-הַשְּׁאֵרִית הַזֹּאת: כִּי-נִשְׁאַרְנוּ מְעַט מֵהַרְבֵּה, כַּאֲשֶׁר עֵינֶיךָ רֹאוֹת אֹתָנוּ.

and said unto Jeremiah the prophet: 'Let, we pray thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto YAHOWAH thy Eloheem, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us;
|
|
ג
וְיַגֶּד-לָנוּ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, אֶת-הַדֶּרֶךְ אֲשֶׁר נֵלֶךְ-בָּהּ, וְאֶת-הַדָּבָר, אֲשֶׁר נַעֲשֶׂה.

that YAHOWAH thy Eloheem may tell us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing that we should do.'
|

ד
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם יִרְמְיָהוּ הַנָּבִיא, שָׁמַעְתִּי--הִנְנִי מִתְפַּלֵּל אֶל-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם, כְּדִבְרֵיכֶם; וְהָיָה כָּל-הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר-יַעֲנֶה יְהוָה אֶתְכֶם, אַגִּיד לָכֶם--לֹא-אֶמְנַע מִכֶּם, דָּבָר.
|
4
Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them: 'I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto YAHOWAH your Eloheem according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing YAHOWAH shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.'

ה
וְהֵמָּה, אָמְרוּ אֶל-יִרְמְיָהוּ, יְהִי יְהוָה בָּנוּ, לְעֵד אֱמֶת וְנֶאֱמָן: אִם-לֹא כְּכָל-הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר יִשְׁלָחֲךָ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ, אֵלֵינוּ--כֵּן נַעֲשֶׂה.

Then they said to Jeremiah: 'YAHOWAH be a true and faithful witness against us, if we do not even according to all the word wherewith YAHOWAH thy Eloheem shall send thee to us.
|

ו
אִם-טוֹב וְאִם-רָע--בְּקוֹל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ אֲשֶׁר אנו (אֲנַחְנוּ) שֹׁלְחִים אֹתְךָ אֵלָיו, נִשְׁמָע: לְמַעַן, אֲשֶׁר יִיטַב-לָנוּ, כִּי נִשְׁמַע, בְּקוֹל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ. {פ}

6
Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will hearken to the voice of YAHOWAH our Eloheem, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we hearken to the voice of YAHOWAH our Eloheem.'

ז
וַיְהִי, מִקֵּץ עֲשֶׂרֶת יָמִים; וַיְהִי דְבַר-יְהוָה, אֶל-יִרְמְיָהוּ.
|

And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of YAHOWAH came unto Jeremiah.
|
|
ח
וַיִּקְרָא, אֶל-יוֹחָנָן בֶּן-קָרֵחַ, וְאֶל כָּל-שָׂרֵי הַחֲיָלִים, אֲשֶׁר אִתּוֹ; וּלְכָל-הָעָם--לְמִקָּטֹן, וְעַד-גָּדוֹל.
|
8
Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
|
|
ט
וַיֹּאמֶר אֲלֵיהֶם, כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֲשֶׁר שְׁלַחְתֶּם אֹתִי אֵלָיו, לְהַפִּיל תְּחִנַּתְכֶם לְפָנָיו.
|
9
and said unto them: 'Thus saith YAHOWAH, the Eloheem of Yisrael, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before Him:
|
|
י
אִם-שׁוֹב תֵּשְׁבוּ, בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת--וּבָנִיתִי אֶתְכֶם וְלֹא אֶהֱרֹס, וְנָטַעְתִּי אֶתְכֶם וְלֹא אֶתּוֹשׁ: כִּי נִחַמְתִּי אֶל-הָרָעָה, אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי לָכֶם.
|
10
If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I repent Me of the evil that I have done unto you.
|
|
יא
אַל-תִּירְאוּ, מִפְּנֵי מֶלֶךְ בָּבֶל, אֲשֶׁר-אַתֶּם יְרֵאִים, מִפָּנָיו; אַל-תִּירְאוּ מִמֶּנּוּ, נְאֻם-יְהוָה--כִּי-אִתְּכֶם אָנִי, לְהוֹשִׁיעַ אֶתְכֶם וּלְהַצִּיל אֶתְכֶם מִיָּדוֹ.
|
11
Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith YAHOWAH; for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
|
|
יב
וְאֶתֵּן לָכֶם רַחֲמִים, וְרִחַם אֶתְכֶם; וְהֵשִׁיב אֶתְכֶם, אֶל-אַדְמַתְכֶם.
|
12
And I will grant you compassion, that he may have compassion upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.
|
|
יג
וְאִם-אֹמְרִים אַתֶּם, לֹא נֵשֵׁב בָּאָרֶץ הַזֹּאת, לְבִלְתִּי שְׁמֹעַ, בְּקוֹל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם.
|
13
But if ye say: We will not abide in this land; so that ye hearken not to the voice of YAHOWAH your Eloheem;
|
|
יד
לֵאמֹר, לֹא כִּי אֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם נָבוֹא, אֲשֶׁר לֹא-נִרְאֶה מִלְחָמָה, וְקוֹל שׁוֹפָר לֹא נִשְׁמָע; וְלַלֶּחֶם לֹא-נִרְעָב, וְשָׁם נֵשֵׁב.
|
14
saying: No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the horn, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we abide;
|
|
טו
וְעַתָּה--לָכֵן שִׁמְעוּ דְבַר-יְהוָה, שְׁאֵרִית יְהוּדָה: כֹּה-אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אִם-אַתֶּם שׂוֹם תְּשִׂמוּן פְּנֵיכֶם לָבֹא מִצְרַיִם, וּבָאתֶם, לָגוּר שָׁם.
|
15
now therefore hear ye the word of YAHOWAH, O remnant of Judah: Thus saith YAHOWAH of hosts, the Eloheem of Yisrael: If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;
|
|
טז
וְהָיְתָה הַחֶרֶב, אֲשֶׁר אַתֶּם יְרֵאִים מִמֶּנָּה, שָׁם תַּשִּׂיג אֶתְכֶם, בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרָיִם; וְהָרָעָב אֲשֶׁר-אַתֶּם דֹּאֲגִים מִמֶּנּוּ, שָׁם יִדְבַּק אַחֲרֵיכֶם מִצְרַיִם--וְשָׁם תָּמֻתוּ.
|
16
then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye fear, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.
|
|
יז
וְיִהְיוּ כָל-הָאֲנָשִׁים, אֲשֶׁר-שָׂמוּ אֶת-פְּנֵיהֶם לָבוֹא מִצְרַיִם לָגוּר שָׁם--יָמוּתוּ, בַּחֶרֶב בָּרָעָב וּבַדָּבֶר: וְלֹא-יִהְיֶה לָהֶם, שָׂרִיד וּפָלִיט, מִפְּנֵי הָרָעָה, אֲשֶׁר אֲנִי מֵבִיא עֲלֵיהֶם.

17
So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.
|
|
יח
כִּי כֹה אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, כַּאֲשֶׁר נִתַּךְ אַפִּי וַחֲמָתִי עַל-יֹשְׁבֵי יְרוּשָׁלִַם, כֵּן תִּתַּךְ חֲמָתִי עֲלֵיכֶם בְּבֹאֲכֶם מִצְרָיִם; וִהְיִיתֶם לְאָלָה וּלְשַׁמָּה, וְלִקְלָלָה וּלְחֶרְפָּה, וְלֹא-תִרְאוּ עוֹד, אֶת-הַמָּקוֹם הַזֶּה.

18
For thus saith YAHOWAH of hosts, the Eloheem of Yisrael: As Mine anger and My fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall My fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt; and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

יט
דִּבֶּר יְהוָה עֲלֵיכֶם שְׁאֵרִית יְהוּדָה, אַל-תָּבֹאוּ מִצְרָיִם; יָדֹעַ, תֵּדְעוּ, כִּי-הַעִידֹתִי בָכֶם, הַיּוֹם.

19
YAHOWAH hath spoken concerning you, O remnant of Judah: Go ye not into Egypt; know certainly that I have forewarned you this day.
|
|
כ
כִּי התעתים (הִתְעֵיתֶם), בְּנַפְשׁוֹתֵיכֶם--כִּי-אַתֶּם שְׁלַחְתֶּם אֹתִי אֶל-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם לֵאמֹר, הִתְפַּלֵּל בַּעֲדֵנוּ אֶל-יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ; וּכְכֹל אֲשֶׁר יֹאמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵינוּ, כֵּן הַגֶּד-לָנוּ--וְעָשִׂינוּ.

20
For ye have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for ye sent me unto YAHOWAH your Eloheem, saying: Pray for us unto YAHOWAH our Eloheem; and according unto all that YAHOWAH our Eloheem shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it;
|
|
כא
וָאַגִּד לָכֶם, הַיּוֹם; וְלֹא שְׁמַעְתֶּם, בְּקוֹל יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵיכֶם, וּלְכֹל, אֲשֶׁר-שְׁלָחַנִי אֲלֵיכֶם.

and I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not hearkened to the voice of YAHOWAH your Eloheem in any thing for which He hath sent me unto you.
|
|
כב
וְעַתָּה, יָדֹעַ תֵּדְעוּ, כִּי בַּחֶרֶב בָּרָעָב וּבַדֶּבֶר, תָּמוּתוּ--בַּמָּקוֹם אֲשֶׁר חֲפַצְתֶּם, לָבוֹא לָגוּר שָׁם. {ס}

22
Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go to sojourn there.'
