א
וַיְהִי, כִּי-יָשַׁב הַמֶּלֶךְ בְּבֵיתוֹ; וַיהוָה הֵנִיחַ-לוֹ מִסָּבִיב, מִכָּל-אֹיְבָיו.
|

And it came to pass, when the king dwelt in his house, and YAHOWAH had given him rest from all his enemies round about,
|
|
ב
וַיֹּאמֶר הַמֶּלֶךְ, אֶל-נָתָן הַנָּבִיא, רְאֵה נָא, אָנֹכִי יוֹשֵׁב בְּבֵית אֲרָזִים; וַאֲרוֹן, הָאֱלֹהִים, יֹשֵׁב, בְּתוֹךְ הַיְרִיעָה.

that the king said unto Nathan the prophet: 'See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of Eloheem dwelleth within curtains.'
|
|
ג
וַיֹּאמֶר נָתָן אֶל-הַמֶּלֶךְ, כֹּל אֲשֶׁר בִּלְבָבְךָ לֵךְ עֲשֵׂה: כִּי יְהוָה, עִמָּךְ.
|
3
And Nathan said to the king: 'Go, do all that is in thy heart; for YAHOWAH is with thee.'
|
|
ד
וַיְהִי, בַּלַּיְלָה הַהוּא; {ס} וַיְהִי, דְּבַר-יְהוָה, אֶל-נָתָן, לֵאמֹר.
|

And it came to pass the same night,
{S}
that the word of YAHOWAH came unto Nathan, saying:
|
|
ה
לֵךְ וְאָמַרְתָּ אֶל-עַבְדִּי אֶל-דָּוִד, {ס} כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה: הַאַתָּה תִּבְנֶה-לִּי בַיִת, לְשִׁבְתִּי.
|
5
'Go and tell My servant David:
{S}
Thus saith YAHOWAH: Shalt thou build Me a house for Me to dwell in?
|
|
ו
כִּי לֹא יָשַׁבְתִּי, בְּבַיִת, לְמִיּוֹם הַעֲלֹתִי אֶת-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרַיִם, וְעַד הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה; וָאֶהְיֶה, מִתְהַלֵּךְ, בְּאֹהֶל, וּבְמִשְׁכָּן.

for I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Yisrael out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle.
|
|
ז
בְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר-הִתְהַלַּכְתִּי, בְּכָל-בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, הֲדָבָר דִּבַּרְתִּי אֶת-אַחַד שִׁבְטֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי לִרְעוֹת אֶת-עַמִּי אֶת-יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר: לָמָּה לֹא-בְנִיתֶם לִי, בֵּית אֲרָזִים.

In all places wherein I have walked among all the children of Yisrael, spoke I a word with any of the tribes of Yisrael, whom I commanded to feed My people Yisrael, saying: Why have ye not built Me a house of cedar?
|
|
ח
וְעַתָּה כֹּה-תֹאמַר לְעַבְדִּי לְדָוִד, כֹּה אָמַר יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, אֲנִי לְקַחְתִּיךָ מִן-הַנָּוֶה, מֵאַחַר הַצֹּאן--לִהְיוֹת נָגִיד, עַל-עַמִּי עַל-יִשְׂרָאֵל.
|
8
Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto My servant David: Thus saith YAHOWAH of hosts: I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over My people, over Yisrael.
|
|
ט
וָאֶהְיֶה עִמְּךָ, בְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר הָלַכְתָּ, וָאַכְרִתָה אֶת-כָּל-אֹיְבֶיךָ, מִפָּנֶיךָ; וְעָשִׂתִי לְךָ שֵׁם גָּדוֹל, כְּשֵׁם הַגְּדֹלִים אֲשֶׁר בָּאָרֶץ.

And I have been with thee whithersoever thou didst go, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a great name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.
|
|
י
וְשַׂמְתִּי מָקוֹם לְעַמִּי לְיִשְׂרָאֵל וּנְטַעְתִּיו, וְשָׁכַן תַּחְתָּיו, וְלֹא יִרְגַּז, עוֹד; וְלֹא-יֹסִיפוּ בְנֵי-עַוְלָה לְעַנּוֹתוֹ, כַּאֲשֶׁר בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה.
|

And I will appoint a place for My people Yisrael, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be disquieted no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first,
|
|
יא
וּלְמִן-הַיּוֹם, אֲשֶׁר צִוִּיתִי שֹׁפְטִים עַל-עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל, וַהֲנִיחֹתִי לְךָ, מִכָּל-אֹיְבֶיךָ; וְהִגִּיד לְךָ יְהוָה, כִּי-בַיִת יַעֲשֶׂה-לְּךָ יְהוָה.

even from the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Yisrael; and I will cause thee to rest from all thine enemies. Moreover YAHOWAH telleth thee that YAHOWAH will make thee a house.
|
|
יב
כִּי יִמְלְאוּ יָמֶיךָ, וְשָׁכַבְתָּ אֶת-אֲבֹתֶיךָ, וַהֲקִימֹתִי אֶת-זַרְעֲךָ אַחֲרֶיךָ, אֲשֶׁר יֵצֵא מִמֵּעֶיךָ; וַהֲכִינֹתִי, אֶת-מַמְלַכְתּוֹ.
|
12
When thy days are fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, that shall proceed out of thy body, and I will establish his kingdom.
|
|
יג
הוּא יִבְנֶה-בַּיִת, לִשְׁמִי; וְכֹנַנְתִּי אֶת-כִּסֵּא מַמְלַכְתּוֹ, עַד-עוֹלָם.
|
13
He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
|
|
יד
אֲנִי אֶהְיֶה-לּוֹ לְאָב, וְהוּא יִהְיֶה-לִּי לְבֵן--אֲשֶׁר, בְּהַעֲותוֹ, וְהֹכַחְתִּיו בְּשֵׁבֶט אֲנָשִׁים, וּבְנִגְעֵי בְּנֵי אָדָם.

14
I will be to him for a father, and he shall be to Me for a son; if he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men;
|
|
טו
וְחַסְדִּי, לֹא-יָסוּר מִמֶּנּוּ, כַּאֲשֶׁר הֲסִרֹתִי מֵעִם שָׁאוּל, אֲשֶׁר הֲסִרֹתִי מִלְּפָנֶיךָ.
|
15
but My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.
|
|
טז
וְנֶאְמַן בֵּיתְךָ וּמַמְלַכְתְּךָ עַד-עוֹלָם, לְפָנֶיךָ: כִּסְאֲךָ, יִהְיֶה נָכוֹן עַד-עוֹלָם.
|
16
And thy house and thy kingdom shall be made sure for ever before thee; thy throne shall be established for ever.'
|
|
יז
כְּכֹל הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה, וּכְכֹל הַחִזָּיוֹן הַזֶּה--כֵּן דִּבֶּר נָתָן, אֶל-דָּוִד. {פ}
|
17
According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

יח
וַיָּבֹא הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִד, וַיֵּשֶׁב לִפְנֵי יְהוָה; וַיֹּאמֶר, מִי אָנֹכִי אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה וּמִי בֵיתִי--כִּי הֲבִאֹתַנִי, עַד-הֲלֹם.
|

Then David the king went in, and sat before YAHOWAH; and he said: 'Who am I, O ADONAI YAHWEH, and what is my house, that Thou hast brought me thus far?
|
|
יט
וַתִּקְטַן עוֹד זֹאת בְּעֵינֶיךָ אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה, וַתְּדַבֵּר גַּם אֶל-בֵּית-עַבְדְּךָ לְמֵרָחוֹק; וְזֹאת תּוֹרַת הָאָדָם, אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה.

19
And this was yet a small thing in Thine eyes, O ADONAI YAHWEH; but Thou hast spoken also of Thy servant's house for a great while to come; and this too after the manner of great men, O ADONAI YAHWEH.
|
|
כ
וּמַה-יּוֹסִיף דָּוִד עוֹד, לְדַבֵּר אֵלֶיךָ; וְאַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ אֶת-עַבְדְּךָ, אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה.
|
20
And what can David say more unto Thee? for Thou knowest Thy servant, O ADONAI YAHWEH.
|
|
כא
בַּעֲבוּר דְּבָרְךָ, וּכְלִבְּךָ, עָשִׂיתָ, אֵת כָּל-הַגְּדוּלָּה הַזֹּאת--לְהוֹדִיעַ, אֶת-עַבְדֶּךָ.
|
21
For Thy word's sake, and according to Thine own heart, hast Thou wrought all this greatness, to make Thy servant know it.
|
|
כב
עַל-כֵּן גָּדַלְתָּ, יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים: כִּי-אֵין כָּמוֹךָ, וְאֵין אֱלֹהִים זוּלָתֶךָ, בְּכֹל אֲשֶׁר-שָׁמַעְנוּ, בְּאָזְנֵינוּ.

22
Therefore Thou art great, O YAHOWAH Eloheem; for there is none like Thee, neither is there any Eloheem beside Thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
|
|
כג
וּמִי כְעַמְּךָ כְּיִשְׂרָאֵל, גּוֹי אֶחָד בָּאָרֶץ--אֲשֶׁר הָלְכוּ-אֱלֹהִים לִפְדּוֹת-לוֹ לְעָם וְלָשׂוּם לוֹ שֵׁם, וְלַעֲשׂוֹת לָכֶם הַגְּדוּלָּה וְנֹרָאוֹת לְאַרְצֶךָ, מִפְּנֵי עַמְּךָ אֲשֶׁר פָּדִיתָ לְּךָ מִמִּצְרַיִם, גּוֹיִם וֵאלֹהָיו.

And who is like Thy people, like Yisrael, a nation one in the earth, whom Eloheem went to redeem unto Himself for a people, and to make Him a name, and to do for Thy land great things and tremendous, even for you, [in driving out] from before Thy people, whom Thou didst redeem to Thee out of Egypt, the nations and their gods?

כד
וַתְּכוֹנֵן לְךָ אֶת-עַמְּךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל לְךָ, לְעָם--עַד-עוֹלָם; וְאַתָּה יְהוָה, הָיִיתָ לָהֶם לֵאלֹהִים. {ס}
|
24
And Thou didst establish to Thyself Thy people Yisrael to be a people unto Thee for ever; and Thou, LORD, becamest their Eloheem.

|
|
כה
וְעַתָּה, יְהוָה אֱלֹהִים, הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ עַל-עַבְדְּךָ וְעַל-בֵּיתוֹ, הָקֵם עַד-עוֹלָם; וַעֲשֵׂה, כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבַּרְתָּ.

25
And now, O YAHOWAH Eloheem, the word that Thou hast spoken concerning Thy servant, and concerning his house, confirm Thou it for ever, and do as Thou hast spoken.
|
|
כו
וְיִגְדַּל שִׁמְךָ עַד-עוֹלָם, לֵאמֹר, יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת, אֱלֹהִים עַל-יִשְׂרָאֵל; וּבֵית עַבְדְּךָ דָוִד, יִהְיֶה נָכוֹן לְפָנֶיךָ.

26
And let Thy name be magnified for ever, that it may be said: YAHOWAH of hosts is Eloheem over Yisrael; and the house of Thy servant David shall be established before Thee.
|
|
כז
כִּי-אַתָּה יְהוָה צְבָאוֹת אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל, גָּלִיתָה אֶת-אֹזֶן עַבְדְּךָ לֵאמֹר, בַּיִת, אֶבְנֶה-לָּךְ; עַל-כֵּן, מָצָא עַבְדְּךָ אֶת-לִבּוֹ, לְהִתְפַּלֵּל אֵלֶיךָ, אֶת-הַתְּפִלָּה הַזֹּאת.

27
For Thou, O YAHOWAH of hosts, the Eloheem of Yisrael, hast revealed to Thy servant, saying: I will build thee a house; therefore hath Thy servant taken heart to pray this prayer unto Thee.
|
|
כח
וְעַתָּה אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה, אַתָּה-הוּא הָאֱלֹהִים, וּדְבָרֶיךָ, יִהְיוּ אֱמֶת; וַתְּדַבֵּר, אֶל-עַבְדְּךָ, אֶת-הַטּוֹבָה, הַזֹּאת.

28
And now, O ADONAI YAHWEH, Thou alone art Eloheem, and Thy words are truth, and Thou hast promised this good thing unto Thy servant;
|
|
כט
וְעַתָּה, הוֹאֵל וּבָרֵךְ אֶת-בֵּית עַבְדְּךָ, לִהְיוֹת לְעוֹלָם, לְפָנֶיךָ: כִּי-אַתָּה אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה, דִּבַּרְתָּ, וּמִבִּרְכָתְךָ, יְבֹרַךְ בֵּית-עַבְדְּךָ לְעוֹלָם. {פ}

29
now therefore let it please Thee to bless the house of Thy servant, that it may continue for ever before Thee; for Thou, O ADONAI YAHWEH, hast spoken it; and through Thy blessing let the house of Thy servant be blessed for ever.'
